Advice for Invisalign patients
during the Corona / COVID-19 pandemic

If you have recently started or are in the middle of a course of Invisalign treatment, please find some guidance during the current Corona / COVID-19 situation…

General advice for patients

We understand that the Corona virus pandemic will be concerning for anyone who is currently in treatment with us for Invisalign treatment. As you will be aware, as part of the national plan to reduce the impact of the disease and save lives, dental practices have to shut for anything other than absolute emergencies such as uncontrollable swellings and infections. As such we are unable to see our patients for Invisalign treatment at the moment but will resume normal treatment as soon as possible. In the meantime here is some general advice. If you have any special concerns please contact the practice by phone or email.

Continuing treatment / getting my next set of aligners

We may be able to supply you with more aligners if there are no interventional stages to your treatment to be done. Please contact us if you do not have enough aligners and we can review your treatment plan to see if this is possible. It could be that with the additional aligners you could continue your treatment as normal. If it is not possible to continue your treatment as normal, although we generally recommend changing aligners every week, we would recommend changing your aligners every 2 weeks. If you have a limited amount of aligners available, spacing them out like this will limit the wear and tear on each aligner. As soon as we are allowed to do so, we will see you to allow you to move on to the next stage of your treatment. If you are on your last aligner or cannot proceed any further at the moment we would recommend that you wear the last available aligner full time for a week as normal and then switch to night time wear only. Once the aligner has done its job, wearing it just at nighttime will prolong its life so that you can use it for longer.

Cleaning your aligners

If you are having to wear your aligners for longer it is likely that they will become less hygienic per time. As per our usual instructions we would recommend that you brush them when you brush your teeth with toothbrush and toothpaste to remove any physical debris. To kill off bugs we would recommend that you steep your aligners in a dilute solution of Milton sterilisation fluid as you would for a baby’s bottle - watered down at least 1:1 with cold water. Do not use hot water or you may damage your aligner. What if I break or lose an aligner? Please let us know if you break or lose an aligner. Invisalign can provide us with a new aligner if required as long as we tell them which aligner number it is. Invisalign will charge £50 for a replacement aligner. Normal turnaround times from manufacture to delivery is usually 7 days. We have not had to order any replacements as yet so do not know if this turnaround time is affected by the pandemic but we would expect that it may be given they are not manufactured in the UK.

We thank you for your patience and understanding through this difficult time. Please stay at home and stay safe to protect you, your family and others and we look forward to seeing you after this has passed.
